It's time to put away the summertime fun and gear up for the new, exciting school year! The Power of Democracy website is fresh with information supporting Constitution Month. For September, courts will:

  • Visit schools to present the Civic Learning Award.

  • Deliver the Oath of Office to local school governing bodies and elected student officials.

  • Make Judges in the Classroom visits that introduce elementary school-aged students to the U.S. Constitution, engage older learners in dialogue about democracy and the rule of law, and teach students about the work of the judicial branch.

  • Host students at their courthouse and in their courtrooms

To connect with the Power of Democracy this Constitution Month, and the rest of the school year, visit https://www.powerofdemocracy.org/jic-courts/constitution-month-2025

Here are three easy action items that will help you prepare for September and the remainder of the school year:

  1. Confirm that your court has a contact to serve as a coordinator. If you have one to recommend, or need to update an existing contact, email judicialoutreach@jud.ca.gov

  2. Begin drafting your court's news release. Humboldt County Superior Court sent

its release out last month. A template is posted here.

  3. SAVE THIS DATE:

August 20th Zoom Call (12:15 PM - 1:00 PM): Volunteers and coordinators are invited. We'll review our lessons collection, updates to the request form, and answer your questions about programs, connections, lessons, and more!
