INTRODUCTION

Judges in the Classroom

Focused on the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments, this lesson examines how voting rights expanded following the ratification of the Constitution. Led by a visiting judge, students learn about the Reconstruction Amendments as well as more modern efforts to extend voting rights to all Americans.

OBJECTIVES

Students will: 

- Learn the views about Elections when our Founding Fathers framed the U.S. Constitution.
- Learn tactics used to prevent Blacks, women, immigrants, and Native Americans from voting.
- Learn how, in modern times, the power of the Executive Order may or may not expand access
