INTRODUCTION

Judges in the Classroom

Similar to "No Animals Allowed" but designed for older learners, this lesson uses a set of scenarios to prompt students to think critically about the intent behind lawmakers when creating a law. Working through case scenarios, students analyze how a law banning vehicles from a public park should be applied — a great option for classes ready to dig into legal reasoning.

OBJECTIVES

Students will:

- Learn about the three branches of government and the role of a judge.
- Identify the purpose and function of law.
- Discover "intent" of lawmakers.
- Analyze practical applications of a law.
- Appreciate that laws may be subject to different interpretations.
