INTRODUCTION

Focused on the 14th Amendment, this lesson takes students back to the 1940s, when the style of dress worn by 21 young men led to murder charges in People v. Zamora. Led by a visiting judge, students gain a better understanding of the 14th Amendment's right to due process, along with the state court system, the three branches of government, and the role of a judge.

RESOURCES FOR TEACHERS

Prepare your students in advance by introducing them to the subject of this lesson. By preparing them in advance, the judge will have more time to go more deeply into the critical points while also leaving time for questions.
