Under Reconstruction: Voter Rights & the Constitution

The Reconstruction Era is filled with examples of challenges to the U.S. Constitution. This lesson reviews amendments to the U.S. Constitution, and looks at how state laws govern our elections.

Students will learn:

--the views about Elections when our Founding Fathers framed the U.S. Constitution
--interpretation of words and critical thinking
--tactics used to prevent Blacks, women, immigrants, and Native Americans from voting
--how, in modern times, the power of the Executive Order may or may not expand access
--how to register to vote before turning 18
